Just as her name translates "to bring forth" in Yoruba, the American singer-songwriter and music producer, Ledisi, is coming forward with a new album "For Dinah" - dedicated to the legendary blues icon Dinah Washington. While Ledisi has always been known for R&B records of strength, power, and authenticity, she's taking a dive back to her roots this time. Her musical upbribing actually centers around jazz, and she credits Dinah for being a major influence in her career. Coming forward witha no-skips 8-track album where her creativity shines through, this tour is definitely something to look forward to.
Following her "Love You Too Tour", Ledisi revelead that her new album will be a tribute record "For Dinah". Its concept actually came from an idea eight years prior to actually recording, signifying how much she wanted to credit the legendary blues artist for her impact in her journey and growth as an artist. Recalling how her mother would play Washington's music in their home, the legendary singer's voice touched Ledisi's heart for music that can soothe the soul.
"She [Dinah] gave me permission to move freely, create freely, be a woman in leadership, wear and say what I want," Ledisi shared with Rated R&B in an interview. "I felt her pain, her rejection. This is where I come from — and this is my way of saying her name out loud."
Released last October 2025, "For Dinah" features the lead single "This Bitter Earth", a haunting blues ballad originally written by Clyde Otis and made popular by Dinah Washington back in the 60s. Ledisi's interpretation of the track focuses on intimacy and vulnerability, collecting grief and social "bitterness" that people experience today.
"People need music right now, and this song is a beautiful sentiment depicting a longing for life being filled with love. When I hear Dinah, I hear that longing."
No strager to honoring the artists that she adores and credits to inspiring her journey in music, Ledisi lets her true heart out in everything that she does. Back in 2021, she released "Ledisi Sings Nina", a tribute to Nina Simone, and her album earned a Grammy nomination for "Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album".
Taking her Dinah Washington tribute era to the road, get ready to be blessed by Ledisi's soulful blues and R&B masterpieces at the For Dinah Tour this 2026. Don't miss out by booking your tickets now!
